Abstract

I will examine the relationship between conservative tendencies and Donald Trump’s border wall rhetoric. Conservatives are more predisposed to avoid foreign groups, disgust, and societal pollution. I seek to argue that the border wall is a ceremonial purification of external societies. Pollution causes a disruption in the culture, and the wall is a symbolic object to represent the purification. I seek to discuss pollution, disgust, and purification as a method to appeal towards conservative ideologies.
