Abstract
In this work, I examine many different Spanish fairy tales, noting female characters specifically. I present the broader purpose of fairy tales within the societies that author them, as well as their value. I note the viewpoints on women that emerge in various ways from the text, highlighting stereotypes and expectations for their conduct. I also discuss the notion of women’s sexual purity, as it pertains to themes commonly found in fairy tales. Through all of this, I come to a conclusion about societal views on women and the rules of that society which governs their behavior and expression.
